Marybeth graduated cum laude from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology and a minor in Political Science. She was a Dean’s List student and also a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society.
Marybeth earned her law degree from Widener University School of Law in 1995. She was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society, through which she participated in oral advocacy competitions where she received First Place, Finalist, and Semi- Finalist Awards. She also received an award in 1995 for Outstanding Service to the University.
In her own words regarding her legal career:
“I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in which I could help people. The area of family law appealed to me. My first experience out of law school in the family law area was as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Wayne G. Hummer, Jr., family law judge, in the Court of Common Pleas in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. This experience reinforced my interest in helping people, and I learned that every family law matter is unique in its own way, although the general issues of divorce, custody and child support were the common reasons that people were in the court system. My practice has been almost exclusively dedicated to helping people with family law issues. I have litigated all types of family law matters, including post judgment matters involving alimony termination /modification and college support issues. After 24 years of working in this area, I have found that helping clients move forward with their lives in a non-adversarial process, such as Collaborative Divorce or Mediation, has been the most rewarding. I have trained extensively in both the areas of Collaborative Divorce and Mediation.
I feel so strongly that the Collaborative Divorce Process is helpful to divorcing couples, that I co-founded the South Jersey Collaborative Law Group in 2010 (now known as South Jersey Collaborative Divorce Professionals), which is a non-profit organization of trained collaborative professionals, who are educating the public about the Collaborative Divorce Process of settling divorce disputes outside of court. I was honored to serve as the Group’s first President and I continue to serve on their Board. I also served on a Statewide lobbyist committee with the New Jersey Council of Collaborative Practice Groups to help pass the New Jersey Family Collaborative Law Act in 2014. I am an active listener, and having been through a divorce myself, I empathize with my clients and I work hard to offer realistic problem solving techniques and solutions to help my clients move forward in the most positive way.”
Marybeth’s professional memberships include: New Jersey State Bar Association; Burlington and Camden County Bar Associations – Family Law Committees; South Jersey Collaborative Divorce Professionals (Co-Founder 2010), present Board Member and Co-Chair of the Education Committee; New Jersey Council of Collaborative Practice Groups, Public Awareness Committee; International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
She has been a speaker on Collaborative Divorce and other family law topics at local bar association seminars and public education settings. Marybeth has been recognized as an “Awesome Attorney” in South Jersey Magazine for several years. She recently authored an article entitled, “Silver Divorces on the Rise, A Slightly Different Perspective on Divorce After age 60.”
Her primary geographical areas of practice include Camden, Burlington and Gloucester Counties.
